IARC

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), belonging to the World Health Organisation, promotes and coordinates international collaboration and research into this disease. It also proposes and develops scientific strategies for their prevention and control.

It is multi-disciplinary, bringing together experience in epidemiology, basic science and biostatistics to identify the causes of cancer and thus contribute to the adoption of preventive measures and to reducing the impact of the illness and the suffering associated with it. The IARC was set up in May 1965, on French initiative, and its headquarters are in Lyon. Currently, 21 countries are members of the Agency, among them Spain.
